LOCATING AND LEAK DETECTION GO HAND IN HAND

There is no substitute for experience.  Accracy and completeness in identifing all underground lines is important for the safety of excavators.

CONDUCTIVE LOCATING

Advance Leak Detection (ALD) utilizes state of the art locating equipment to identify underground gas lines, electric lines, phone lines, TV lines, and more.  Our staff has ten years or more experience with locating equipment.

LEAK DETECTION

The ability of the leak detection specialist to find an underground leak is tied directly to his ability to locate the underground line that is leaking.  The line must be located and marked before a leak detection can begin.  ALD uses several methods for finding leaks.  One method used is with a super sensitive listening device known as a Subsurface Leak Detector.  This method works best on hard flat surfaces such as concrete and asphalt.

NON CONDUCTIVE LOCATING

Non Conductive locating is used to identify plastic or concrete lines.  The most common form of non conductive locating is called Witching or Dowsing.  This method uses copper or brass rods to identify changes in the electro-magnetic field emenating up from the earth.  This method identifies where the ground has been disturbed or where there is a void in the ground, and is generally a less than ideal and many times inaccurate method of finding underground water or sewer lines.  Where possible ALD will send a tracer line or sonde down the pipe to allow for conductive location.

Sonic Ear Method

Conductive Method

Another method uses a trace gas.  This method is acomplished by filling the line with an inert gas and using a molecular analyzer to find where the gas is escaping through the ground.  This method works best in grass or dirt but can be used on asphalt or concrete by drilling test holes through the surface.
